The Master of Arts in International Studies can be completed in three semesters or four semesters, including an International Studies Internship.
Students will be equipped for a future in one or more of the following areas:
- Professional work in international agencies, government agencies and information offices, security and intelligence, international businesses and non-governmental organizations
- Further graduate studies in International Studies in a Ph.D. program
Program of Study
The program of study includes the following four requirements:
Graduate Courses (see the Courses for details)
Students complete six graduate courses.
Language Proficiency
Successful completion of a second-semester non-English language course (equivalent to a second-semester language course at USF) is required for admission. By completion of the MAIS program, students are required to show proficiency in a non-English language at intermediate level two (fourth-semester language course at USF), either through previous undergraduate coursework, by passing a language exam at USF, or by completing a fourth-semester language course (see the Courses for more details).
International Studies Internship
A unique and key feature of the program is the International Studies Internship. The internship takes place the summer between semesters of study at USF, and is served at an international, governmental, or nongovernmental organization.
