Kevin Chun

Kevin M. Chun, Ph.D. is Professor of Psychology and Asian American Studies at the University of San Francisco. He completed his B.S. in Psychology at Santa Clara University, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at UCLA, and Psychology Internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. His research focuses on acculturation processes and their relation to health and psychosocial adjustment for Asian American immigrants and refugees. Dr. Chun is currently Co-Principal Investigator for “The Chinese Family Diabetes Education Project.” This four-year study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, is the first in the nation to develop and test a cognitive-behavioral type 2 diabetes intervention for Chinese American immigrants. Dr. Chun’s publications include Acculturation: Advances in Theory, Measurement, and Applied Research (APA), and Readings in Ethnic Psychology: African Americans, American Indians, Asian Americans, and Hispanics/Latinos (Routledge), which he co- edited with Drs. Pamela Balls Organista and Gerardo Marin. Drs. Chun, Balls Organista, and Marin recently co-authored the textbook, The Psychology of Ethnic Groups in the United States (2010, Sage Publications), which explores fundamental issues and methods in the field of ethnic psychology. Dr. Chun is also a contributing author to a number of scholarly works, including the Handbook of Asian American Psychology (1st & 2nd editions, Sage), Acculturation and Parent-Child Relationships: Measurement and Development (Lawrence Erlbaum), Handbook of Mental Health and Acculturation in Asian American Families (Humana Press), Handbook of Racial and Ethnic Minority Psychology (Sage), Ethnocultural Approaches to Understanding Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Issues, Research, and Clinical Applications (APA), Religion At The Corner of Bliss and Nirvana: Politics, Identity, and Faith in New Migrant Communities (Duke University Press), and the forthcoming, Handbook of Adult Psychopathology in Asians: Theory, Diagnosis and Treatment (Oxford University Press). Dr. Chun was a recipient of the USF Irvine Scholar Fellowship in1995, the USF Ignatian Service Award in 2004, and the Early Career Award for Distinguished Contributions from the Asian American Psychological Association in 2005. He currently serves on the Editorial Board for the Asian American Journal of Psychology.
