The ESL Program upholds the Vision, Mission, and Values of the University of San Francisco. Particularly important are the University's core values that include a commitment to:

ESL courses for matriculated international students are open only to students who are conditionally admitted to the University and need to improve their English skills. Courses are offered at high intermediate and advanced levels.
ESL courses for degree-seeking students: Non-native speakers
of English applying to USF degree programs must submit official results
of either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to the USF
Admissions office. To be considered for full undergraduate admission to
USF, international applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of at
least 79 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based), or IELTS overall band
score of at least 6.0 with no individual band score below 5.5.
Applicants
who do not have a sufficient TOEFL or IELTS score may be admitted to
USF undergraduate programs on an English Conditional basis, except for
the School of Nursing. To be eligible for English Conditional
undergraduate admission, students must have TOEFL scores between 48 - 78
(internet-based), 460 - 547 (paper-based), or IELTS overall band score
between 5.0 and 5.5. Students who wish to apply for English Conditional
undergraduate admission must apply through the USF Undergraduate Admissions office.
