At USF we’re very proud to be named one of the top schools in the country for diversity by U.S. News and World Report, but rankings only tell part of the story. We believe that diversity helps define USF. Our students don’t simply represent an unusually rich group of experiences and backgrounds. They are actively engaged in the world – and in changing the world.
The Multicultural Recruitment and Retention Office (MRR) has been working hard for over a decade to encourage traditionally underrepresented groups, such as African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans, to make USF their college choice.
During the fall, staff visit high schools and participate in college fairs that serve multicultural and first-generation student populations in California, and all around the U.S. During the spring, MRR staff and 4 undergraduate student interns coordinate several outreach and enrollment events for new students, including From Dusk 'til Don (D2D), an overnight program for newly admitted African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American first year students. Currently enrolled USF students interested in creating a more diverse USF can volunteer to host a new student or participate in other outreach events such as our spring call-out sessions and writing campaigns. New freshmen who participate in the spring overnight program are invited to reunite with the MRR community during the annual fall D2D reunion.
