
Minor in Music
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts offers a minor in music for students who wish to supplement their major field of specialization with a serious study of music history and theory. The program is open to and will enrich both musicians and non-musicians. This program requires the completion of two basic courses and three electives, for a total of at least 20 units. Students may also earn credit by taking lessons or participating in a choir or orchestra.
Required Courses (8 units)
- MUS - 201 Musicianship and Principles of Tonal Theory
- MUS - 301 History of Western Art Music I: Origins to 1750 OR
- MUS - 302 History of Western Art Music II: 1750 to the Present
Electives (12 units)
Students may fulfill the 12 units of electives in three ways:
- by taking three elective courses in Music;
- by taking two electives and one yearly cycle of instrumental or vocal instruction;
- by taking one elective and two yearly cycles of instrumental or vocal instruction.
