KUSF is the University's 3,000 watt, non-commercial, stereo FM radio station. At a frequency of 90.3 MHz, the station broadcasts to much of the San Francisco Bay Area and has a coverage that includes approximately four million people. KUSF is known both nationally and internationally for its innovative programming and approach to music. Located on the USF campus, KUSF is closely involved with the emergence of new music and the new music business. KUSF's diversified programming format includes new music, as well as cultural, fine arts, and public affairs programs, ethnic programming, and specialty shows. KUSF offers programming to the Bay Area as a community service of the University and provides a direct and immediate link between the University and the community to promote University activities and services. With a volunteer staff of over 200 students, alumni, and members of the community, KUSF is able to offer distinctive and innovative programming to the San Francisco Bay Area 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
KUSF invites students, both those in Media Studies and other majors, to use KUSF as a recreation activity as well as a training facility. Students may also utilize KUSF for academic and workshop projects and receive academic credit. Alumni of KUSF have often been very successful in pursuit of employment in the radio and music industries.
