CMPL - 200. Introduction to Comparative Studies: Literature of the Body (4)
Introduction to principles and concepts needed for understanding and comparing works of literature from different cultures and time periods. Students will read about and critically analyze physical and symbolic representations of the Body through a variety of fictions and theoretical works with a comparative focus, be it a genre, a time period, a cross-disciplinary theme or its relevance to another discipline. Offered every semester.
CMPL - 390. Critical Analysis (4)
This course builds on the analytical and critical skills introduced in CMPL 195 or 200 through examination of the major methodologies of Twentieth Century literary theories. Offered in the Fall. Cross Listed With: ENGL - 390
CMPL - 400. Capstone Seminar: Political Fictions (4)
Prerequisites: CMPL - 200, ENGL - 390. The capstone seminar will serve to synthesize the various ideas, concepts, approaches, and languages studied throughout the students' program, and introduce them to graduate-level research with writing a senior thesis. Students will look at a variety of fictions, novels, short stories, poems, and films in an attempt to discern how they have both shaped and been shaped by the modern political landscape, perhaps itself a collection of fictions.
