Multicultural Recruitment and Retention
Multicultural Recruitment and Retention
Welcome! Bienvenidos!
The Office of Multicultural Recruitment and Retention (MRR) was established
at the University of San Francisco in 1995 by a committee of faculty, administrators,
and students with the goal of increasing the recruitment, enrollment, and retention
efforts for African American traditional undergraduate students. In 2002, the
Office of MRR was expanded to include the coordination of recruitment and enrollment
efforts for other traditionally underrepresented populations, including Latina/o
and American Indian students.
Multicultural Recruitment and Retention is fully integrated into the Office
of Undergraduate Admission and in addition to serving as a resource for prospective
African American, Latino/Hispanic, and American Indian students and families,
staff also serve as admission counselors for other prospective first year students.
During the fall, two MRR staff visit high schools and participate in college
fairs that serve multi-cultural and first-generation student populations in
California, as well as other U.S. regions. During the spring, MRR staff and
two undergraduate student interns coordinate community and on-campus events
for newly admitted students. Make the Journey, an overnight
program for newly admitted African American students; and Bienvenidos,
an overnight program for newly admitted Latino students, are two signature MRR
events. Current USF students contribute to the recruitment process by participating
in community receptions and by serving as hosts and mentors to newly admitted
students.
