Transfer Criteria

Admission Criteria

The University welcomes applications from those who are qualified to achieve the University's educational goals. In particular, the University seeks students who give promise of distinction in the quality of their personal lives, in service to the community, and in leadership in their chosen field of study. To this end, the University invites applications from men and women regardless of race, age, disability, religion or national origin.

Transfer Students must normally have a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 to be competitive for admission. At the very least a student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on all transferable coursework and must be in good academic standing at the last institution attended. Students who would not have been admissible to the University based upon their secondary school records must normally complete at least 24 semester units or 36 quarter units of transferable, academic coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.

Special note for transfer applicants to the School of Nursing: Admission is highly competitive and many factors are taken into consideration. Among these are the students' overall academic record, their performance in nursing prerequisite courses as well as all science courses, letters of recommendation and the personal essay. Students must have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0 or better to be considered for admission.

If a student repeats a course (due to a failing grade), a grade of "B" or better must be achieved on the second attempt and both grades (the original and the repeated) will be used in calculating the cumulative grade point average. Failure to achieve the "B" or better will result in the student's inadmissibility to the program. Two such failures will also result in a denial for admission to the program.

Deadlines

The Office of Admission has a rolling admissions plan. We will make a decision on your application approximately four weeks after all required materials have been received. Notification of spring applicants will begin in October; notification of fall applicants will begin in January.

Important Deadlines:

December 1

Priority deadline for spring admission

January 15

Priority deadline for those students applying for financial assistance for the fall semester. You should submit your application for admission and file the appropriate financial aid forms by this date. Those students applying by the priority deadline will receive first consideration for financial aid and admission. Students applying after the February 1 priority deadline will be admitted as space permits.

Note: Transfer students applying to the School of Nursing must submit a completed application by January 15 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.
