Veterans bring unique, global experiences to the University of San Francisco, strengthening our community and our classrooms. We're proud to assist our nation's veterans with completion of their undergraduate degree. Once admitted, our Veteran's Benefits Coordinators will act as liaisons between you, the university and all relevant VA agencies to ensure you're receiving all available credits. Because most veterans enter USF as transfer students with credit from a variety of sources, you'll be assigned a counselor based on the major you intend to pursue. Learn more about USF Veteran Affairs or meet our transfer admissions team.
In addition to credits completed through traditional colleges and universities (online or in the classroom), USF also awards advanced standing credit through the following sources:
- DD214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty - nine semester credits of physical education will be granted for two years of active military duty in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard.
- Joint Services Transcript (JST) - veterans are eligible to receive elective credit for their military occupational experience and training based on the American Council on Education's (ACE) recommendations via JST.
- Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) - elective credits are typically awarded for course work completed at the Community College of the Air Force.
- Defense Activity for Nontraditional Education Support (DANTES) - the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) offers examinations that test an individual's college level knowledge. We award credit for DANTES CLEP exam scores of 50 or higher. Please see the chart here for more specific information. Note: DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) are not eligible for credit.
