Focus on Our Faculty - Tim Godfrey

-
Dr. Tim Godfrey, S. J. joined USF and the SONHP faculty team in August 2012 and quickly became one of the most respected and beloved faculty at the school. Dr. Godfrey received his Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in May 2011 at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. His DNP capstone project highlights his mission to serve the poor and needy where they are – in communities; it was entitled, “A Paradigm Shift in Catholic Health Care: An Evaluation of a Community-Based Program for Homeless People”. He continued at The Catholic University of America as a post-doctoral fellow in Health Policy and Ethics from June 2011 – May 2012. Dr. Godfrey is board certified as a Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and uses his community focus lens in all that he does. He brings many years of experience as a community health nurse as well as pastoral experience that provided him the expertise for teaching in multiple programs at SONHP, including the BSN, MSN, DNP and MPH. Recognized for his community work and graduate studies, Dr. Godfrey received the ESCAPE Program Appreciation Award in 2008 from Georgetown University, the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Master’s Studies from The Catholic University of America in May 2010, as well as their Alumni Award in Doctoral Studies in May 2011. In a quote from the USF booklet, “Living the Mission” (July 2, 2013), Father Tim, as he is referred to by many in the SONHP, describes the nursing skill of assessment as a central part of the Ignatian principle being contemplative in action. He goes on to state, “To Change the World from Here is an invitation first to assessment – to see as a contemplative in action – and then to discover one’s own role in God’s healing plan for the world.” Dr. Tim Godfrey, S. J. has certainly done just that as he embraced the Central Valley Immersion project and made it a reality. For more information about Fr. Tim Godfrey, please visit his faculty profile webpage.
