The University of San Francisco welcomed a number of national and local
leaders to campus as commencement speakers for the spring 2012 graduation
ceremonies. It was all part of the pomp and circumstance that goes with
celebrating a new class of graduates.
Commencement
exercises took place May 17-19 at St. Ignatius Church on lower campus. Click

Bill
Cosby, comedian, actor, and educator spoke at the College of
Arts and Sciences ceremonies for undergraduates in the arts and social
sciences.
San
Francisco Mayor Ed Lee spoke at the College of Arts and Sciences
ceremonies for humanities and sciences undergraduates.
Holly Petraeus,
the assistant director of the Office
of Servicemember Affairs in
the Treasury Department's Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau, addressed College of Arts and Sciences graduate students. Petraeus is
the wife of retired U.S. Army general and CIA director David Petraeus.
U.S.
Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter EdD ’89, spoke at
the School of Education’s exercises.
Ken Hackett, former president of Catholic Relief Services,
the official international relief and development agency of the Catholic Church
in the U.S., spoke to School of Management undergraduates.
Other commencement speakers included:
- Goodwin Liu, associate justice of
the California Supreme Court;
- Michael J. Sheeran, S.J., Regis
University president; and
- Ralf Hotchkiss, director and chief
engineer of Whirlwind Wheelchair International Institute for Civic and
Community Engagement at San Francisco State University.
