The Rev. James Martin, S.J., has made it a point to minister
far beyond church walls. As Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert’s go-to chaplain,
he’s equally at ease conversing about pop culture and Biblical verse. He’s also
the New York Times best-selling author of “My Life with the Saints” and “The
Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything.”
On Feb. 6, Fr. Martin will bring his signature blend of
humor and wisdom to the University of San Francisco in a talk based on his new book, “Between Heaven and Mirth: Why Joy, Humor, and Laughter Are at the Heart
of the Spiritual Life.” Free and open to the public, Fr. Martin’s talk will
explore the role of joy and laughter in a life of faith.
“Fr. Martin is an engaging speaker who weaves faith and humor into
everyday life in a way that resonates well with a variety of audiences,” said
USF President Stephen A. Privett, S.J. “He is a talented storyteller with a
compelling message of joy, and we are fortunate to welcome him to campus.”
The event (video) will be held at 4 p.m. in the McLaren Conference Center on
USF’s main campus. Copies of Fr. Martin’s latest book will be available for
purchase, and he will be signing books before and after the talk.
