The University of San
Francisco recently surpassed the halfway point of construction on the John Lo Schiavo, S.J. Center for Science and Innovation (CSI), celebrating the
milestone with a topping-off ceremony.
The July 27 ceremony—which
marked the completion of the highest point of the structure—took place in the
shadow of the three-story building. Attendees included USF President Stephen A.
Privett, S.J., USF trustees, deans, donors, and, of course, the man for whom
the science center is named—USF Chancellor John Lo Schiavo, S.J.
Fr. Privett offered a
blessing.
“The
next phase of work is the glass-curtain wall installation, framing the inside of
the building, the continued installation of the mechanic-engineering-plumbing
infrastructure, and the cut through to the existing Harney Science Center,”
said Kristy Vivas, USF assistant director of Facilities Management.
Once completed, the 57,000-square-foot
LEED Certified science center will boast state-of-the-art learning laboratories and classrooms, as well as indoor
and outdoor gathering and group-study spaces. Construction is expected wrap up in
summer 2013.
