As
San Francisco celebrates the arrival of the fall arts season, the University of
San Francisco is kicking off its own series of fall dance, musical, and
theatrical performances beginning Sept. 29 and running through December.
USF’s
Performing Arts and Social Justice Department (PASJ)—with involvement from Bay
Area artists and community members—will put on 12 events, ranging from a film
and lecture on the history of San Francisco theater, to student dance works, and
solo and group musical performances.
One
of several highlights this season will be the production of “Heroes and Saints,”
written by Chicana activist and award-winning playwright, poet, and essayist
Cherrîe Moraga. The play focuses on immigrant families affected
by the rampant use of pesticides in California’s San Joaquin Valley.
Directed
by Roberto Guiterrez Varea, USF associate professor of theater, the play runs
from Oct. 25-29. View a complete schedule and purchase tickets.
