Meet Kevin Kumashiro, the new USF School of Education dean.
Kevin K. Kumashiro has been named dean of the School of Education, effective July 16.
Kumashiro is a professor of Asian American studies and education at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He's taught in schools and colleges across the U.S. and abroad and worked as a consultant for school districts and state and federal agencies.
An award-winning author and editor, his books include "Troubling Education" (which received the 2003 Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award), and "Bad Teacher!"
Kumashiro is president of the National Association for Multicultural Education and director of the Center for Anti-Oppressive Education.
Walter Gmelch, who has served as dean since 2004, is returning to the School of Education faculty.
