Chris Matthews of ‘Hardball’ at USF

“Hardball” political talk show host Chris Matthews will discuss faith, service, and America’s current political dysfunction with the Most Rev. Bob McElroy, auxiliary bishop for the San Francisco Archdiocese, at USF on March 18.

Book signing

Best known for taking on politicians on his MSNBC show, “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” he will sign his book “Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero,” following the event.

Matthews was as a presidential speechwriter for former President Jimmy Carter and a top aide to former Speaker of the House Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neil, Jr., before becoming a journalist. He graduated from Jesuit College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts.

Visiting professor

Matthews will teach a class on politics and democracy as a distinguished visiting professor for the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good from March 17-21.
