USF’s highest alumni award: given for exceptional service to the university
Terry Callan ’61
Terry Callan served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors 1997-2009, including two years as president, as a member of the President’s Ambassador Executive Committee, and as an integral member of his class reunion committees. Following in his father’s footsteps (Harold A. Callan JD ’29), Callan is a devoted, lifelong champion of USF’s athletics program, and his volunteer work has supported both its Athletics Hall of Fame and the Green & Gold booster club. You may have seen Callan, his wife Gail, and son Ryan ’01 cheering on the Dons in their distinctive green and gold scarfs! We are pleased to recognize Callan for his valuable contributions to USF.
USF also honored seven other individuals who are making a difference:
Lisa Sabatini ’83, MSN ’08, received the Alessandri Service Award, named for tireless volunteer Al Alessandri ’50. Sabatini is one of USF’s most dedicated volunteers. She served on USF’s Peninsula/Silicon Valley Regional Council and has supported many USF projects over the years, including the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Move-In Day, and class reunions.
John Foran ’56, JD ’59 received the Public Service Award. Foran is a Democrat who served in the California State Assembly 1963-1976 and in the California State Senate 1976-1986.

Tom Costello, retired director of USF’s Hospitality Management Program, and Chuck Smith, vice chair of USF’s Board of Trustees, each received USF’s Cable Car Award, which is presented to a valued member of the university family who did not attend USF, but who use their time and talent to promote the university and its mission.
Holly Hogan ’02 received the Distinguished Recent Graduate Award. Holly Hogan is an associate at K&L Gates law firm and specializes in intellectual property. She performs pro bono work that fights sexual harassment and supports victims’ rights.
