Thank you for embarking on this adventure with us that is the new USF Magazine. In addition to giving the print edition a sharper, more eye-catching look and using more environmentally friendly paper, we’ve revamped the online version. It’s been redesigned to be more engaging and interactive. We’ve also added numerous Web Extras, including videos, photographs, and articles.
And, thanks to you, we’ve doubled the number of Class Notes. From news about marriages to births to the expansion of a frozen yogurt business in Mumbai, India, the notes are a joyous read. Please keep them coming.
In addition, we’ve aimed for more provocative features. “Back to the Future” takes the reader on the university’s 150-year geographic journey throughout the city, ending, for now, with the purchase of our new Downtown Campus in the shadow of our original one-room schoolhouse. Also part of the feature is an interview with politics professor Corey Cook about the state of the city with which our university is so intertwined.
“Justice for the Jesuits” has the latest on the international legal battle to bring to trial the accused perpetrators of the 1989 murders of six Jesuits and two women in El Salvador.
Of course, we’re also here to have some fun. For that, view “From This Day Forward,” where you will find photos and stories of alumni who were married in St. Ignatius Church.
Now we’d like to hear what you think. Please send us letters to the editor.
During my first nine months as editor of USF Magazine, I have enjoyed learning about USF and all that it has to offer. As a graduate of and former magazine editor for a Jesuit school just down the Peninsula, this is a homecoming of sorts for me.
