Searching CINAHL Plus with Full Text

What is CINAHL Plus with Full Text?

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) Plus with Full Text contains references to journal and magazine articles, books, dissertations, software/audiovisual products, government documents, and Internet resources. It contains materials from 1937 to the present.

How do I get to it?

From the library's home page at www.usfca.edu/library:

1. Under Research and Collections, select Start Your Research: All Databases.

2. Click on CINAHL Plus with Full Text in the Databases A to Z list.

3. Click on Connect to this Database.

 Does it have the full text of articles?

CINAHL Plus with Full Text has both full text and citations.  If there is a direct link to the full text, one of the following links will appear:

 Fulltext PDF

 HTML Fulltext

 Linked Fulltext

For citations with no direct link to full text, click on the USF Find Full Text button.

Search Tips

Select the appropriate operators to focus your search.

Subject Terms

To find Subject Terms in CINAHL click the "Suggest Subject Terms" box located directly above the topmost search box.
Enter your concept of interest into the search field and click the search button.
A list of terms will appear, choose the term that most closely matches your concept of interest.
Click on the term itself for a scope note and to view related, broader and narrower terms.
*When reviewing citations ways take note of the descriptors in the record to find other search terms*

Limit to Nursing Journals or Articles Written by a Nurse

To limit to nursing journals, on the main search screen, enter your search terms then scroll down until you see the "Journal Subset" box, select "Nursing" and click the search button.
To limit to articles authored by a nurse, on the main search screen, enter your search terms then scroll down until you see the check boxes next to "First Author is a Nurse" or "Any Author is a Nurse."
Select the desired box and click the search button

CINAHL Limits

Limit to Peer Reviewed Research Articles

On the main search screen under "Limit Your Results" check the box next to "Research Article" and the box next "Peer Reviewed."
If you've alread run a search, you can update your results to just Peer Reviewed articles without having to run a new search.
In the left-hand search bar, under "Refine Your Results," click the "Show More" button to display all of the limit options, including Peer Review.

CINAHL Search Limits

Combine searches

Click on the Search History button located just below the search fields.
Check the searches you want to combine.
Select the appropriate operator to connect the searches.
Click Add.

Print or email results

Always click Add to folder below each record you want to save.
Click on the Folder view link to view the items saved.
Click on Print, Email, Save to Disk, or Export
