Reserves for Faculty

How to set-up reserved materials for your classes.

Gleeson Library provides Reserves Services to ensure access to your core course materials that, due to high demand, would not otherwise be available to all students in a class.

Library-owned or personal materials such as books, photocopied readings, videos and CD-ROMs, are placed on reserves. Electronic reserves (eRes) are PDF formatted electronic readings accessible through your course's reserves page.

Access your course's reserves page through the library's home page under "Course Reserves," entering "Instructor" or "Course Name."

Physical items are located at the Gleeson Library Circulation / Reserves desk. Request all items by title. Students are required to show their valid USF ID card when borrowing reserves material. Reserves material may not be renewed online.

Loan Periods

Library Use Only
Materials are charged out for two-hour periods and must be used in the building. They do not circulate overnight.
Two Hour
Materials are charged out for two-hour periods, and may be taken outside the building. They may be borrowed for overnight use one hour before the Library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.
Three Hour Film Materials are charged out for three-hour periods, and may be taken outside the building. They may be borrowed for overnight use two hours before the Library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.
24 Hour
Materials may be checked out at any time and are due 24 hours later.
One Week
Materials are due any time on the seventh day.

Overdue Fines

For Two Hour, Three Hour, and Overnight materials: $1 per hour.
For One Week materials: $1 per day.

Charges for lost or damaged materials are based on the current average book cost to the library plus a processing fee and all overdue fines which have accrued. Processing fees and overdue fines are nonrefundable. Book cost fees are nonrefundable once the order / replacement process has begun.

A borrower is not exempt from any overdue or replacement charges because of failure to receive a notice from the library.

Electronic Reserves

Access the eRes readings by clicking on the "View or Print" title you are interested in. Enter your "name" and "USF ID number." All readings are in PDF format, requiring Adobe Reader (free download) to view them.
Macintosh users: be sure to open readings in Adobe Reader rather than the "Preview" application which is the default viewer in Mac OS X.

Hint: eRes fast access: From the Library's home page, go to "View Your Library Record," enter your "name" and "USF ID number." From your library record, click on "Search the Catalog." Here you can access your course's reserves page by "Instructor" or "Course." Now you can open all the eRes readings without having to enter your name and ID each time.

General guidelines of this nature cannot hope to cover all situations which may arise. We wish to be as flexible as possible in meeting the needs of students and faculty. If further questions arise, please do not hesitate to bring them to our attention: gleesonreserves@usfca.edu
