The majority of USF international students in a degree program
(graduate or undergraduate) are able to work on-campus. On-campus employment is defined by a student
being paid by USF and working at third party vendors that are located on the
USF campus, these include the dining service and the bookstore. International students are able to work a
maximum of 20 hours per week during required terms, and over 20 hours per week
during vacation terms.
Basic Procedure for Hiring an International Student: International students are able
to be hired and begin work without a Social Security Number. Once a supervisor has received the completed
Work Clearance form, which the student gets from Student Employment in the One
Stop office, the supervisor can hire the student and start paying them. If the student does not have a Social
Security Number, they will have to apply for one and submitted a copy of their
card to Student Employment within 45 days of beginning work. The supervisor will need to complete the Work Authorization form
that is part of the Social Security application for international students with
on-campus jobs.
On-Campus supervisors can download and complete the Work Authorization form to assist students in applying for a Social Security card. Be sure to print it on letterhead and sign it.
