Summer Guest Housing

Summer Guest Housing is a great way to connect to the city during the summer months while promoting a service oriented and hospitable stay in our residence halls.

Position Descriptions & Compensation

The Summer Guest Housing Program hires professional, service-oriented individuals interested in contributing to the comfort of USF's summer guests.

Management Team Positions:
Facilities Team Leader
Assistant for Hospitality and Special Projects
Linen Team Coordinator
Furniture Service Team Supervisor

General Positions:
Guest Host
Linen Team Member
Furniture Service Team Member

All staff members will receive:
- One single room for 12 weeks (unless assigned to Loyola Village)
- A residential meal plan (prorated and contingent on employment)
- A bi-weekly stipend (prorated daily and contingent on employment)
- 50% off a summer gym membership at Koret
- Opportunities to enjoy free programs and events

Requirements & Expectations

The Summer Guest Housing period of employment is from the beginning of summer in May until the end of summer in August. All applicants must be able to commit to working for the entire 12-weeks, with Summer Guest Housing as his/her number one priority. All other commitments, such as summer school, an outside job, or internship must be discussed and approved by the Summer Operations Manager.

Candidates for the Summer Guest Housing positions must be registered as a student at the University of San Francisco.

Candidates for the Summer Guest Housing positions must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

All Summer Guest Housing employees must have good standing in the residence halls and are held to the standards as stated in the Student Housing and Residential Education Staff Expectations document. Please download and review this document before completing your application for any of the Summer Guest Housing positions. 

If hired, Summer Guest Housing staff members must attend all mandatory training sessions (Spring and Summer):
- Management Team training
- All Staff Training (Entire week of May)

All positions require: professionalism, customer service skills, initiative, adaptability, independent judgment, excellent communication skills, the ability to work as a team member, conflict resolution skills, creativity, and basic computer skills with a preference given to experience in leadership and/or management roles. This position also requires an ability to work under pressure while maintaining a high level of cordiality. There are also times when this position requires manual labor; particularly moving linens and making beds in rushed situations.

Management Team positions report directly to the Summer Operations Manager for Student Housing and Residential Education. All general positions report directly to the Management Positions. All staff members are expected to be on-call and available any time they are on campus. Employment as a Summer Guest Housing staff member is considered the employee's first priority for the duration of the summer. The Summer Operations Manager must approve any other jobs or any summer school courses that candidates plan on taking.

Overview of Application & Interview Process

Once you’ve decided to pursue the Summer Guest Housing position, your first step is to complete an application using our online SHaRE employment portal. Candidates must complete the application in its entirety to be considered for employment. This includes uploading a PDF of your résumé, answering all essay questions, and submitting at least two references/letters of recommendation with the application. Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered for employment.

ALL Positions (excluding SGH Returners) 
Candidates must submit their application by no later than 5:00pm on Friday, January 25, 2013. Submitted applications will then be reviewed and candidates will receive an email to schedule an interview that best fits his/her schedule using our wejoinin link.  Interviews for applicants of the general Summer Guest Housing positions will take place from February 4th-February 7th, 2013. 

SGH Returners 
Candidates must submit their application by no later than 5:00pm on Friday, January 25, 2013. Submitted applications will be reviewed and past work experience will be taken into consideration in the hiring process. Please note that SGH Returners will not be required to complete an interview; hiring of former SGH employees will be based on past work experience.

Management Team 
* Candidates hired for a Management Position must be available from February 4th-February 7th, 2013 to assist in the hiring process of general positions, including guest hosts, linen team, and furniture service team members. Candidates must also be available for the following mandatory training dates: 
- Friday, April 12, 2013 from 12:00pm - 5:00pm
- Friday, April 26, 2013 from 12:00pm - 5:00pm
- Friday, May 3, 2013 from 11:30am-3:30pm
- Monday, May 20, 2013, 10:00am – 5:00pm
- Tuesday, May 21, 2013 until Friday, May 24, 2013, ALL DAY/NIGHT

ALL Positions 
* Candidates hired for a Summer Guest Housing position must be available for the following mandatory training dates: 
- Friday, May 3, 2013 from 12:00pm-3:30pm
- Tuesday, May 21, 2013 until Friday, May 24, 2013, ALL DAY/NIGHT
