Now that the Tax Relief Act has been enacted, what issues should estate planning attorneys, tax planners and wealth managers be discussing with clients? The program will feature a panel discussion moderated by Stephen Schwarz, professor at UC Hastings College of the Law. Panel members include:

The speakers will provide a brief overview of the recent tax legislation and address a range of estate and tax planning implications for you and your clients to consider, including:

  • Gift and Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax and planning strategies for the next two years
  • Testamentary estate planning for married couples – changes to conventional planning
  • Impact of the tax legislation on the estate planning profession and charitable giving as a whole
  • Predictions and prospects for future fundamental tax reform

The events of 2008 and early 2009 were a crisis for many. In the aftermath, the popular media and much of the public have questioned the wisdom of long held beliefs about what works in investing and how to plan for the future. According to Gahagan, such examination is worthwhile but investors must use caution in drawing conclusions too quickly. This session will focus on important lessons related to asset allocation, diversification and the impact which emotions and psychology have on the investment process.
