J.P. Allen is an Associate Professor of Information Systems.
His areas of expertise include online/internet business, open
technology, and the digital transformation of organizations and
society. He has been a faculty member at Purdue University and the
University of Cambridge, and a visiting researcher and professor in
Germany, Sweden, Australia, Portugal, and Brazil.
J.P.'s education and research work is dedicated to
understanding how business, the most powerful and influential
institution in the modern world, is itself being transformed by
digital technology. Open technologies are a particularly important
instrument in these changes.
J.P. serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Information
Technology, and the International Journal of Electronic
Commerce. J.P. is a Senior Editor of The DATA BASE for Advances in
Information Systems.
At USF, J.P. was the founding Chair of the Technology, Innovation,
and Entrepreneurship Department. He has pioneered the development
of Internet Business classes, which guide non-technical management
and entrepreneurship students through the process of creating their
own online businesses.
