Michael J. Webber
Michael J. Webber served as the Dean of the School of Management from 2011 to 2014. He was first Dean of the newly renamed School of Management and established the School’s new mission, values and strategic plan.
Under Professor Webber’s leadership, the School of Management was re-accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the premier business accreditation and management thought-leadership organization in the world. Dr. Webber is a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) evaluator and has been a member of the WASC Interim Report Committee since 2007.
To be closer to our existing business, nonprofit and government partners and to open new opportunities for the School, in September 2012 Webber moved the Masagung Graduate School of Management to USF’s new Downtown Campus in the historic Folger Coffee Building in the financial district of San Francisco.
A native of Wales, he holds a B.A. in Politics and History from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and a M.Sc. in Industrial Relations from the University of Wales, Cardiff. He also has his M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Dr. Webber came to USF in 1993 and is a full professor in the Department of Sociology. He has extensive administrative experience and has served as Director of Academic Program Review and Assessment and Associate Dean of Academic Program Review, Assessment and Adjunct Faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences and as Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs in the Provost Office.
Dr. Webber has an extensive background in Sociology and his research concentrates on how business is connected to political processes in the United States. He is an expert on the New Deal era, having authored two books and countless research articles on the subject.
