Doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology: Training Program

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

Position Announcement 

We are pleased to announce the Psychology Internship in Clinical Psychology at the University of San Francisco Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). USF-CAPS is the primary provider of mental health services for approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students at a private Catholic/Jesuit campus. We provide brief individual and group psychotherapy to a diverse student population, who present with a wide range of concerns. In addition to psychotherapy services, CAPS offers psychoeducational outreach; consultation and referral for students, faculty, staff and students’ families; and crisis management to the campus community.

Our program emphasizes training in brief therapy and multicultural competency within an integrationist framework. Our licensed staff and consultants are committed to training and represent a diversity of theoretical and cultural backgrounds. Please see our CAPS Diversity Statement. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS) and the Doctoral Internship training program (in clinical psychology) is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). Psychology Interns have the opportunity to enhance their skills in Brief Individual Counseling/Psychotherapy,Group Counseling/Psychotherapy, Intake and Triage Assessment, Crisis Intervention, Consultation, Outreach, and Program Evaluation. In addition to Individual and Group Supervisions, our weekly training activities include: Didactic In-Service Seminar (Fall & Spring), Intercultural Seminar (Fall & Spring), Supervision, Program Evaluation, and Professional Development Seminar (Summer), and Educational Staff Meetings. Our approach assists Interns in developing their own perspective toward brief therapy and in moving closer to their own integration of available frameworks and methods.

Date(s) of Training Year: August 5, 2013-August 1, 2014
CAPS is a full-time (40 hours per week), 12-month internship for a total of 2080 hours. Interns utilizing their full vacation and holiday leave will complete approximately 1896 hours (the minimum amount required to complete the internship is 1850 hours).  Note: We can not guarantee a chemical-free environment (i.e. scents, cologne, lotion, soap, etc.).

Stipend and Benefits: $25,000 stipend

Psychology Interns receive the same university holidays  as licensed staff (approximately 12  holidays), an additional 6 days off during the Winter break, and 1 week of leave/vacation in July, in accordance with CAPS policies.

Membership to the state of the art University of San Francisco-Koret Recreational Center. 

80 hours (2 weeks) of Professional development time for completion of dissertation, and/or interviewing for a training position/employment in accordance with CAPS policies.

Psychology Interns will also be provided additional Professional development time for the following training activities:  San Jose State University Multicultural Training Conference and the Northern California University Counseling Center Training Directors Conference. 

Use of University of San Francisco Libraries and databases, Information Technology services, and workshops.

Private office with phone, computer, voice mail, e-mail account, Internet access, software, and digital web camera.
