Carol Chihara Awards

The Carol Chihara Awards are named in honor of Professor Emeritus Carol Chihara and are based on academic excellence. Each fall and spring 3-4 undergraduate Biology majors are presented with the award. Award recipients receive a certificate of merit and a purse of $500. These awards are made possible by the generous donations of alumni and friends to the Biology Gift Fund.

Eligibility (you must meet all criteria):

•    Completed at least three semesters at USF as a continuing full time student in the Biology program and, at minimum, have completed Genetics
•    Science GPA in the previous semester was ≥3.5
•    Are a full time Biology major during the semester of application (part-time OK only for last semester seniors)
•    Have not previously received a Chihara Award

Process:

•    The Biology Faculty Awards Committee will review applications.
•    Applicants will be evaluated on the previous semester’s achievement and overall science GPA. The Science GPA includes all biology, chemistry, math and physics courses that are requirements for the Biology major.
•    Awardees will be notified within three weeks of the application deadline and the awards will be acknowledged publicly.
